Getting Personal

I play video games of great variety, but with greatest taste in open world games, stealth games, and RTS games. I enjoy it when traversal mechanics allow you to do something cool, so that I can try to figure out how to use it in the most interesting manner. This gameplay philosophy is something I try to apply to my own level designs as well.

I've played Dungeons & Dragons since 2007, because I bought a $40 book about dragons and I had to understand what the numbers meant. In most cases, I am the Dungeon Master, and have thus introduced over two dozen people to it since. It has given me greater understanding of storytelling methods and combat design.

My involvement with role-playing has gone deeper since then, as for several years (and potentially in the future) I've participated in fantasy and post-apocalyptic LARP (Live-Action Role-Play) events as both a player and organizer/storyteller, and I've been an actor in theater plays.

I greatly enjoy traveling. In spite of my fear of heights, I love hiking and climbing to reward myself with a great view--in both real life and in games (probably more in real life--if I've decided to go climbing I've already resigned myself to be patient with it). Plus it's always fun to explore a new city, like Athens, Edinburgh or Seattle (especially their food--seriously, game worlds need more cookbooks!).
